NEW DELHI: The secret of BJP’s confidence of winning the upcoming Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman election is now revealed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a call to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik that sealed the deal for which way nine BJD lawmakers will vote in Thursday’s election.
The BJD vote is crucial in the narrow margin that exists between the government and the opposition, which takes the vote to 123 for the government side, leaving the Opposition to around 110. While there was no official word on the phone call, Prime Minister made the call on Monday. During the call, the Prime Minister is believed to have told Mr Patnaik that he holds both the Chief Minister and his father, BJD founder Biju Patnaik, in high esteem.
